About

My name is Tess Holbrook, I am a filmmaker who is currently moving from sweet old Vermont to Chicago.

Humor has been the inspiration for most of my work. My goal is always to have an audience leaving the theater with a smile on their face and a story in their head that won’t leave for at least a few days. I’m drawn to dark stories that have an outer shell of jokes and irony. My most recent work is pure, good natured, comedy which I hope I was able to pull off. I fully believe that a film should not only be intriguing, intellectual and art, but it should be entertainment. If I make a film that is entertaining and not forgotten the moment the audience leaves the theater then I think that film will be a success.

I also work each summer as a staff member and director for the Chelsea Funnery. It is an acting camp for kids which is two weeks long and by the end of the of camp the kids put on a full length Shakespeare play! You can check out the website here: http://www.thechelseafunnery.com

This winter I will be directing American Buffalo by David Mamet in Chicago! If you'd like to learn more about it and how you can see it, please check out our Indiegogo! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/american-buffalo/x/3881625
